My name is Greg Alan, and I'm a former radio talk show host. I began this One Neat Idea after some simple success in being able to generate some income on the internet.

Here's my story of how I started with a small goal of making money online with my website...

In mid 2006, I found myself out of a job. I got another one, but not in broadcasting. As a former on-air professional, I had my own website but I didn't see the need to continue its existence.

That's when I set about trying to generate a small income in order to pay for the fees of hosting it - and justifying the time I spent tinkering with it.

In early January of 2007, I sent my newsletter subscribers a link to a special webpage I created because I was kind of excited about something. My excitement came from my finding (finally) an idea that generated a healthy amount of money on the internet.

Not gobs of money. Not "$4,569 Dollars Last Month on eBay!!" or some other outrageous claim.

• I posted the particulars of what I found: How I did it, detailed examples, multiple screen shots, and an almost complete explanation of what I did to make money from an affiliate idea. Since then, I've had more than a few requests for more detail. I soon realized that a lot of people beginning to attempt what I did had many questions. As with most anything on the internet, word spread.

So I decided to expand on that original explanation...eventually creating the book and manual for you to do the same thing I did (generate extra income on the internet), "One Neat Idea"

To be honest, I consider a few of them to have some really good information. I still read and re-read some of them. I spent a lot of money on Google AdWords and related instruction books...

One Christmas, in an attempt to get a free wagon for my two toddler children, I went nuts.

I spent thousands of dollars in order to help a retailer sell some wagons in return for a performance incentive. In three months, I made more than $7,000 dollars in sales for them...which meant $1,000 dollars in commissions each month for me (and a promised free wagon).

Only problem? I spent FOUR TIMES that amount in Google AdWords expenses.

• Come to think of it, the eBook I bought DID say, “$1000 Dollars Per Month In Commissions!”...

I guess they left out the part about the expenses, eh? I never did get the wagon...

Lesson learned.

Because I'm an optimist at heart, I figured I had proved a couple of things with that initial disaster. People DO click on AdWords Ads...and people DO buy from the end retailer.
