THE PRESIDENT WAS HORRIBLE LAST NIGHT...BUT IT'S NOT HIS FAULT
What is the purpose of a Presidential press conference? If it's generally accepted that a press conference is to allow the press to solicit information they already don't know, then the performance last night was awful. I can't think of one thing we learned about the major issues of the day...Iraq, Marriage Amendment, September 11 Commission, the Economy and Jobs, Healthcare, Outsourcing, the Deficit, etc...
Basically, it was about the President recommitting to the June 30th deadline in Iraq and not accepting blame for September 11th. The President didn't really offer any new information...so, what's up with that?
The thing that bothers me TODAY is - the press has been hammering him in a rather sneering way that he offered no new information in the press conference in their usual way:
Bush was on message; Bush repeated himself several times; Bush offered nothing new - all of this coming today from the President's political opponents.
But, who really did worse last night? Bush.....
...or the PRESS. Consider the fact that the PRESS had the responsibility for soliciting the information they wanted...they failed...and now they have the gall to complain about how much they didn't find out.
It's a strange world, my friends...
