THANK YOU ALL

I cannot thank you enough for the encouragement and words of thanks many of you have been kind to send. I am happy to report that I am currently pursuing a couple of leads on my broadcast employment. Sad to report that none are in the Eastern Iowa area.

Many of you have left comments particular to individuals that are still employed at the station. While that is free speech, some of them have been a bit unfair to people I know and respect. Change is often difficult and comes at the surprise of a lot of people. Tom Collins in particular is a fine broadcaster and in the short time I got to know him, seems very capable of earning the trust that many of you made me earn when I took over.

I've learned also that the dust will eventually settle and many will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about. I had hoped to make Iowa my home again, and there may still be the possibility that I will, but I am also looking to make myself more than just a warm body in a studio pushing buttons (figuratively and literally). Over my last 17-some-odd years, I've gained an enormous amount of experience in each move I've made...so I see the next stage as another learning experience.

If one of the possibilities I am working on pans out, I will have made Friday, March 31st my last official host broadcast. In that event, I'm sure I will have much more to say about the experience and it may even inspire a more lengthy tome of my travels in radio. It will also mean the end of this blog as it currently is set up.

I will do my best to keep you informed. I wish all of you well...my time on the air has been directed toward strangers, but always meant in friendship.

Thanks for the update. Let me be the first one to comment on this blog date. You are very talented and a born storyteller. Please try to use those gifts in whatever you do -- and I hopefully you'll settle back in eastern Iowa again (and host on the air.)

Tom Collins may very well be a "fine broadcaster." But, I have to wonder if perhaps he's better suited to FM.

In addition to making your listeners think about things, a big difference between you and him is that you seem "real." Genuine. Again, it's likely due to that forced 'radio voice' he uses. Maybe that sort of thing plays better on the Left Coast than it does here in the heartland.

My wish would be for Tom to get a show on Mix 96.5. Then, WMT can rehire you for the morning show at double your previous salary, and all will be well in river city.

Greg,

If I could choose your next career stop, it would be replacing that liberal wannabe Rep. Leach for the Iowa 2nd District in the US Congress. Wishfull dreams...

Good luck with the next stop.

I would like to echo Brittney's idea of having you return to WMT in the morning, and I am not willing to go so far in saying that Tom Collins is a "fine broadcaster." Come on...

Tv Trivia? What events happened on this day? Celebrity birthdays? Interesting facts about spiders? Yech.

He sounds canned and appeals only to a very specific "days gone by" audience.

On the other hand, my wheels were always turning when I listened to you. Your opinions and comments kept my thoughts occupied throughout the day, everyday, and I miss it greatly.

I have given Tom Collins the benefit of the doubt multiple times in the hopes that he get's better, but I can't listen to mindless fodder much more, so I have gone back to NPR on public radio.

Greg,

Best regards to you.

I too have given Tom Collins the benefit of the doubt(ful ears). Yes, he is fine in the sense that he doesn't stammer when he's unscripted, and he's got an FCC license. However...

He's jazzed up my mornings.

I now listen to either KCCK (jazzed) when I want mellow mornings, or KXEL when I want regional news.

You are missed greatly.

I hope you stay a part of our community. Would love to know that someone so thoughtful and amusing (sorry not all your audience appreciated your sarcasm like I did) is staying in the Corridor area.

Please keep us posted.

I agree totally with what anonymous at 3:06 wrote. Couldn't have said it better.

Please keep us posted!!!!

Greg,

I think your arrogance caught up with you. I applaud WMT for making this move and relieving us from all of the negative political banter that you bring to the table. I don't know about anyone else, but I grew tired of hearing you complain about the democrats, liberals and that evil media (which you of course are a part of.)

I'm not a huge fan of the Bob Bruce Radio experience, but at least my afternoons are a bit more light-hearted.

I do wish you and your family the best of luck. Each experience is a learning experience, and I'm sure this one is for you.

Good luck Greg.

It's Thursday, April 27, and I just stopped by to see if there's been an update.

I'll check again in a few days.

On the bright side, the plastic Tom Collins -- did I mention it's nine minutes after four, 4:09 PM? -- seems to have dropped the tired "shiny new dime" thing.

I may yet go back to KCRG and KXEL, which is where I waited while Randy Lee was killing your morning drive-time ratings.

Again, best wishes to you and yours.
