Family says trooper shot man in back of head
DES MOINES - The family of a man shot by an Iowa State Patrol trooper after a car chase said he was shot in the back of the head, The Des Moines Register reported today in a copyright story.Yeah...so? He was shot in the head because that would be the only thing visible over the steering wheel. Despite any evidence to the contrary, you say it was the back of the head. Nowhere in either the CR Gazette version or the Register version does anyone other than the family make a claim he was shot in "the back" of the head. Am I missing something here?
William Lawrence Filippo, 29, of Charles City, was shot Feb. 16 when authorities said he tried to run down Trooper Mark Domino on U.S. Highway 218 south of Charles City.
...the younger Filippo refused to pull over when Domino tried to stop him to investigate an earlier hit-and-run report, and that both vehicles ended up in a snow-filled median after a short chase.
Officials said that when Domino got out of his squad car, Filippo drove at him, and that's when Domino opened fire.
The elder Filippo said doctors "told us two hours after it happened'' that one bullet went through his son's neck and the second lodged in an eye socket.
We still have goofballs that think JFK was shot in the front of his head despite reams of evidence to the contrary.
The copyright Register version includes the standard statement by the family who knew him best:
"This is not in his nature at all," he said. "He is not a criminal."They always say that.
The elder Filippo called his son "a quiet person."
"I know he was going through some marriage problems with his wife, and he had a lot going on in his life, but to do this, to charge at an officer, does not sound like my son at all," he said.
