Bad TV

Even if it was from a candidate that actually had a chance, this would be a bad trend. There's already a disconnect between the politicians and voters...

Unless we get a chance to have a meaningful debate in the spirit of Lincoln-Douglas, I don't see the education of the American voter improving a whole lot. Which means we'll get more and more things that "sound good" pitched to us...without actually having a chance to see the details. And most Americans have forgotten the old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true..."

We mostly have to rely on mainstream media filtering, 20-second sound bites, scripted forums, deceptive advertising, YouTube commercials, webcasts, and programmed "TV debates"...and now we can just pop each candidate into our DVD players:

Edwards Sends 70,000 DVDs To Iowa Voters
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Democratic presidential contender John Edwards is mailing Iowa caucus voters some 70,000 DVDs that argue he is the only candidate with a health care plan for all Americans.

The six-minute video and pamphlet specifically address health care problems and statistics in Iowa.
See? An entire health care plan for 47-million Americans in just six minutes. The sad thing is, people will buy it. Most people spend more time deciphering their cell phone plans than they do on these kinds of whacky ideas...
The former North Carolina senator has proposed a universal health care plan to help cover the estimated 47 million Americans who don't have insurance.
Universal health care. Too good to be true. Even his own website rounds out the entire plan in just six pages. (PDF version - HTML version)

Our tax code is roughly 6-MILLION pages. You can't possibly come up with a plan of any detail at all in just six.
