Sorry, I know I come from maybe a different generational viewpoint...but if I found pornographic photos of a naked 9-year old and a baby girl whom I didn't recognize, I might do something about it other than this...

Bentley's wife found Jetseta photos

CEDAR RAPIDS - Richelle Bentley found a group of pornographic pictures of 9-year-old Jetseta Gage and a baby girl in her husband's coat pocket, then put them back, she testified this morning as the first witness in husband James Bentley's trial on six federal sexual exploitation and child pornography charges.

She showed them to her aunt and a friend. And put them back.

Then she confronted her husband. He said he had found them under an air conditioner in their home during a recent move. Richelle Bentley told him to mail the pictures to Jetseta's mother. She never saw the pictures again.

Holy moly. Other than being thoroughly confused over the relationship twists and turns, I'm amazed at how idiodic most of the people surrounding Jetseta are/were.

I mean geez...I have a 4-year old daughter...and if I found anything suggesting even a hint of child pornography involving anyone my daughter knew, met, saw, glanced at, or was in any way shape or form connected to her or any other child...that would be that.

Maybe I'm too strict, but I question everything my daughter learns as she grows up.

For instance: I recently forced the end of a friendship my daughter had because I was upset at her being allowed to watch television at a house unsupervised while the mother was in another room on the computer. She happened to see and act out something that made me wonder where she learned it. I won't get into what she saw, but it wasn't on Disney channel or PBS.

Let's count up the stupid women in this case so far:

Wife of James Bentley finds child porn in her husband's coat...does nothing

Aunt sees same photos...does nothing

Friend of aunt sees same photos...does nothing

James Bentley begins dating Trena Gage, 29, of Cedar Rapids who met him while talking on a CB radio

James Bentley charged in November 04 and January 05 with the sexual abuse of Jetseta

Jetseta's mother Trena Gage allows brother Roger Bentley to come over and work on the transmission on her van on March 24, 2005

Gage, who says she didn't know Roger Bentley was a convicted sex offender, leaves to attend class at Hamilton College, leaving her children in the care of her mother, Teresa Gage.

What I've never been able to fathom was how a simple search - even by authorities at the time they arrested James Bentley - didn't turn up brother Roger's name.

He was listed as a Sex Offender in the Iowa system at the time.

I used every means at my disposal to investigate, probe, and look into the background of the person involved in my daughter's situation highlighted above. Heck, I even paid $29.95 for a criminal background check. I didn't find anything, but I still ended the friendship she had with the little girl just because I was suspicious.

Nobody did anything in Jetseta's case.
